Is there something special about the new Apple iPhone 5 data cable? Probably not many people know about the special features of the new Apple iPhone 5 data cable. Many may not understand why Apple chose to use this special interface instead of continuing to use the more popular Micro USB connector.

Recently, software engineer Rainer Brockerhoff explained the reason why Apple doesn't use the Micro USB interface. First, the Micro USB only has five digital signal designs: 5V power supply, ground, two data pins, and one detection pin.

The Lightning interface, however, has nine digital signal designs. And the iPad's charging current is 2A, but Micro USB cannot provide 2A current. So when you charge and play games using Micro USB, the battery drains faster than it charges. This is the special feature of the Lightning interface; it's more intelligent and its functionality is not limited.
